Form & Pierce

The automotive manufacturing process is very complex with a vast number of operations that impact each part differently.  This is a challenge that can lead to rework and scrap.

In the example below, an automotive manufacturer used Perceptron's structure-mounted sensors to guide their form & pierce operation.

Form & pierce process:

  1. Measurements are taken around the rear lamp opening
  2. Measurement results are used to calculate optimal hole positioning
  3. Robot offsets are transferred to the punching robot
  4. Punching and hemming of assembly holes are adjusted based on the particular part
