The automotive manufacturing process is very complex with a vast number of operations that impact each part differently. This is a challenge that can lead to rework and scrap.
In the example below, an automotive manufacturer used Perceptron's structure-mounted sensors to guide their form & pierce operation.
Form & pierce process:
- Measurements are taken around the rear lamp opening
- Measurement results are used to calculate optimal hole positioning
- Robot offsets are transferred to the punching robot
- Punching and hemming of assembly holes are adjusted based on the particular part
