Reverse Engineering is extremely helpful when you need to capture the design of a part or object. You may have the original CAD or drawing, but you never know if the product you manufacture is the same as the original files.
In this particular application, a customer used ScanWorks and Geomagic software to update their CAD models.
Hardware: V5 scanner mounted to a 7-axis portable coordinate measuring machine
Software: Geomagic Studio
Reverse Engineering process:
- Located alignment spheres around the bus body and then scanned them to create part space
- Scanned all bus components inside and outside
- Merged inside and outside point cloud together to create one file
- This resulted in a complete CAD model of the bus body to update CAD files
