PERCEPTRON AWARDED MULTI-PLANT, MULTI-STATION PROJECT (Sept. 14, 2017)

Perceptron® Awarded Multi-Plant, Multi-Station Project for Helix® Dimensional Gauging Systems in Europe

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Sept. 14, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRCP), a leading global provider of 3D automated metrology solutions and coordinate measuring machines, announced that a prominent global automotive manufacturer selected Perceptron as their preferred supplier for in-line dimensional gauging systems in Europe over the next three years.

Installation is progressing for two plants which will receive multiple Helix gauging systems to automatically measure, record, and provide real-time feedback on key dimensional aspects of the vehicle from initial launch to full production. The systems will also be connected to Perceptron’s Central Server for high-level management process monitoring and reporting. All stations for the first plant are scheduled to be completed by early 2018.

Helix is Perceptron’s family of 3D scanning sensors that incorporates state of the art technology with sophisticated optics and mechanics. The laser line quantity, density, length and orientation characteristics are all user configurable and eliminate the need to physically move the sensor over the part while scanning. This flexibility enables scanning of multiple features from a single sensor position. Helix is designed for fast and precise measurement of complex geometries on the plant floor.

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Aug. 04, 2017 — Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRCP), a leading global provider of 3D automated metrology solutions and coordinate measuring machines, today announced that a prestigious German automotive manufacturer selected Perceptron gauging and robot guidance for their manufacturing facility in China.

The project includes six stations in total: four in-line gauging, one in-line robot guidance for form and pierce, and one near-line closure panel gauging. All stations feature Helix sensors, including both structure-mounted and robot-mounted, to measure features such as threaded studs, hemmed edges and complex holes. Perceptron’s measurement algorithms allow measurement of non-standard hole shapes, which are increasingly used by manufacturers to error-proof their build process.

PERCEPTRON AWARDED GAUGING PROJECT IN MEXICO (June 7, 2017)

PLYMOUTH, Mich., June 07, 2017 — Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRCP), a leading global provider of 3D automated metrology solutions and coordinate measuring machines, announced that a prominent Japanese automotive manufacturer selected Perceptron for their compact vehicle program.

The project includes two in-line gauging stations. Station one features four robot-mounted Helix HDR sensors and six stationary Helix sensors to measure approximately 100 inspection points on the vehicle’s underbody. Station two includes four robot-mounted Helix HDR sensors to measure 94 locations on the vehicle’s framed body. These two flexible robotic systems will be configured to measure one vehicle model manufactured at the plant.

Longstanding Tier 1 Customer Selects Dimensional Gauging Solutions for European Plants

PLYMOUTH, Mich., March 30, 2017 — Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRCP), a leading global provider of 3D automated metrology solutions and coordinate measuring machines, announced that a longstanding North American Tier 1 customer placed orders for Helix® dimensional gauging solutions in several European facilities.

“Perceptron has successfully installed over sixty measurement systems for this particular Tier 1 customer in North America and we are excited to leverage this success and expand into their European facilities,” commented Rick Van Valkenburg, Perceptron Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing.

Frames and cradles are a critical part of the vehicle and undergo an intricate assembly process before they are delivered to the OEM. Perceptron solutions provide benefits to both the supplier and the OEM including reduced scrap and rework costs for the supplier and quality assurance for the OEM.

Van Valkenburg added, “We continue to see more and more OEMs requiring 100 percent measurement from their high-value part suppliers. The confidence Perceptron has established at the OEM level is transcending down the supply chain.”

The latest project involves a flexible configuration with two robot-mounted Helix sensors providing real-time process information for more than 100 geometry features in addition to 170 studs. All measurements are taken and reported in less than eight minutes. Perceptron’s stud scanning capability, measurement speed, and Helix technology made Perceptron the obvious choice. The station is currently being designed, with installation scheduled for summer of 2017.

(NASDAQ:PRCP), a leading global provider of 3D automated metrology solutions and coordinate measuring machines, announced that a premier European automotive manufacturer has placed an order for three new Helix® robot guidance systems, extending a longstanding relationship and continuing to recognize Perceptron’s superior technology and performance.

Perceptron installed its first robot guidance system at the manufacturer’s plant in 1993 and remains their number one choice for automated closure panel insertion. For the latest order, the manufacturer selected Helix® sensors to reduce the total sensor count which results in additional space and more efficient layout around the assembly line.

The Helix® sensors place the front doors, rear doors, and fenders on the vehicle body for multiple models on the same assembly line. Measurements are taken at various stages during the process and used across all systems to calculate the optimal fit for each panel and vehicle. This intelligent process ensures that the variation is distributed across all gaps and results in a well-built vehicle. The three Helix® robot guidance systems will go into production in early 2017.

Perceptron® Announces Appointment of David Watza as President and Chief Executive Officer

Plymouth, Michigan, November 17, 2016 – Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRCP) today announced that the Board of Directors of the Company appointed David Watza to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, effective immediately.

Mr. Watza will succeed W. Richard Marz, who was appointed as interim President and Chief Executive Officer of Perceptron in January 2016. Mr. Marz will continue in his role as Chairman of the Board of Perceptron.

Mr. Watza, 50, has been Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Perceptron since October 2015, a position he will continue to hold. Prior to joining Perceptron, Mr. Watza served as Vice President of Corporate Development of TriMas Corporation, with responsibility for acquisitions, divestitures, and Treasury operations. Mr. Watza joined TriMas in 2005, holding positions of increasing responsibility and professional growth including Vice President Finance, Business Planning & Analytics, responsible for strategic planning, annual operating planning and forecasting, and corporate information technology; division Finance Officer for TriMas Australia Holdings Ltd.; and division Finance Officer for Cequent Performance Products. Mr. Watza possesses more than 25 years of finance experience in engineered products and manufacturing businesses with responsibilities in accounting, finance and information technology. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Michigan.

The project involves four manufacturing plants with each plant receiving over fifteen stations. The stations will be positioned throughout the manufacturing process to measure the critical vehicle subassemblies such as doors, hoods, underbodies, side frames, as well as the completed body.

Perceptron’s dimensional gauging solutions provide a real-time view of the customer’s production quality allowing them to make rapid adjustments and instantaneously evaluate the results. Global Automotive Manufacturer Selects Perceptron® Helix® Robot Guidance Systems

PLYMOUTH, Mich., July 07, 2016 — Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRCP), a leading global provider of 3D automated metrology solutions and coordinate measuring machines, announced that a leading global automotive manufacturer has selected Perceptron’s Helix® robot guidance systems for its new vehicle launch. This is the second global manufacturer to choose Perceptron’s Helix® robot guidance solution for their high throughput manufacturing lines.

Rick Van Valkenburg, Perceptron’s Americas Director of Sales, said, “The large measurement volume of our Helix® sensor family is a great differentiator for complex robot guidance applications. It reduces the total sensor count required, while measuring multiple vehicle models with a single configuration. The combination of our Helix technology and ‘Visual Fixturing’ alignment software provide the information our customers’ need to meet their fit and finish quality objectives.”

In the case of the first application, six Helix sensors mounted on the robot’s end-of-arm tooling ensure optimal fit on the liftgates for four different vehicle models. The Helix sensors measure the liftgate in the holding rack to ensure an accurate pickup of the part and then move to measure the vehicle opening with the same robot-mounted sensors. Perceptron’s Visual Fixturing alignment software then provides an offset to the robot to optimize the fit, correcting for discrepancies in the build of the liftgate and the car body. This same offset also corrects any positional error introduced from the tooling. The second global manufacturer robot guidance application involves eight Helix sensors to measure the roof opening and re-position the roof for optimal placement. In both applications, final quality measurements are taken around the liftgate and roof to record the overall fit between adjacent panels. Both Helix® robot guidance systems will go into production later this year.

Two different types of Coord3 CMM machines with TouchDMIS™ software provide the needed capability for dimensional measuring of automotive, aerospace, appliance and power generation parts.

When Robert Howard formed Carolina Metrology in Duncan, South Carolina, he knew the level of core measuring capability that was required to compete as a contract dimensional measurement service. Mr. Howard has spent over fifteen years in the metrology, quality and measurement areas managing a number of inspection shops.

“The key to success in contract measuring is to be able to program fast, and have equipment that can run parts with a high degree of accuracy and repeatability,” says Mr. Howard. “When you can provide high-quality dimensional service at a competitive value, understand the inherent degrees of accuracy of the different types of equipment, and supply the scheduling and timing required to meet the customer’s requirements, you have mastered the fundamentals of CMM measuring.”

The COORD3 HERA CMMs are a series of small and medium measuring volume bridge DCC CMM’s that offer advanced performance measuring platforms with integral dovetail X axis machined directly into the granite plate providing the ultimate in stable metrology performance. The HERA CMMs can be equipped with Renishaw touch or scanning probes and are suitable for all applicable manufacturing measuring applications. The Hera Model 10.7.7 has a measuring range of 1000mm x 700mm x 700mm. The 10.15.9 Model has a measuring range of 1500mm x 1000mm x 900mm.

Robert Howard adds, “It’s really the CMM software that gives a measuring service like ours the ability to react quickly, but interestingly, we had been using three other different software versions. The Hera machines allowed us to continue to use those other softwares until we familiarized ourselves with the new TouchDMIS…which was a real benefit to us. As you can imagine, after spending over fifteen years in the area of metrology, I have worked with just about every type of software, and they are always being enhanced and improved. We now prefer our TouchDMIS because it takes the guess work out of CMM programming by seamlessly integrating CAD data with the CMM programming and measurement process providing us with a high level of power, precision and productivity at the single click of the mouse.”

(NASDAQ: PRCP) Perceptron has significantly extended the performance of its market leading HELIX smart scanning sensor with the addition of HELIX HDR, a Higher power and extended Dynamic Range version. HELIX HDR produces a thinner laser line and higher power, coupled with a wider measurement resolution that allows measurement of the most demanding applications including highly reflective surfaces such as finely machined aluminum castings.

–    Coord3® Industries s.r.l., a leading mid-market designer and manufacturer of a full range of high-quality and high-performance Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM), based in Turin, Italy.
–    Next Metrology Software s.r.o., a technical leader in CMM operating software and the developer of TouchDMIS™, based in Prague, Czech Republic.

The NMS acquisition closed on January 29. The Coord3 acquisition is expected to close in February 2015, subject to customary closing conditions. The total value of the transactions will be approximately $15.9 million, in a combination of cash and assumed debt. The combined companies have approximately $15 million in annual revenue. Management expects the transactions will be accretive by the end of fiscal 2016.

The industry-leading solutions of Perceptron’s current In-Line Measurement business addresses only about 10 percent of the automotive metrology market.”

Angelo Muscarella, the president of Coord3 Industries, will continue as managing director of Perceptron’s CMM business, which will be operated under the Coord3 name through wholly owned subsidiaries of Perceptron.  Muscarella also will serve as Perceptron’s country manager for Italy.

The Company will acquire the business of Coord3 for cash on hand of approximately $2.0 million, a deferred payment of approximately $350,000, payable in 18 months, and assumed debt estimated at approximately $10.7 million.  The Company acquired all of the share capital of NMS for cash on hand of approximately $2.6 million and deferred payments of approximately $230,000, payable over the next year. The purchase agreements for both acquisitions are denominated in Euros. The above U.S. Dollar amounts assume a conversion rate of 1.17 USD per Euro.

PREMIUM GERMAN AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURER CHOOSES HELIX (Sept 16, 2014)

PLYMOUTH, MI–(Sep 16, 2014) – Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRCP), a leading global provider of real time, non-contact 3D measurement, inspection, and automation solutions, announced that, starting in March 2014, it expects to begin shipping 45 inline gauging systems to a premium German automotive manufacturer. This project represents the largest single location deployment to date of Helix®, Perceptron’s revolutionary real time 3D scanning technology. Perceptron’s systems will be strategically distributed throughout the production plant to automatically measure, record, and provide real time feedback on key dimensional aspects of the vehicle during the entire manufacturing process.
